The Washington Post reports: “Before the zombies came, a typical CDC blog post would get around 3,000 page views over the span of a week. On Wednesday, the CDC Web site crashed when 30,000 people tried to see one … blog post titled ‘Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse.’ On Thursday, the Twitter feed for CDC Emergency hovered right around 12,000 followers. Overnight, that number multiplied by 100, to 1.2 million followers, thanks to the smart campaign the CDC launched to get people thinking about emergency readiness. The tagline: ‘If you’re ready for a zombie apocalypse, then you’re ready for any emergency.’”
Overstock.com announced that all net profits from its Worldstock Fair Trade department– which already returns 60-70% of sales dollars back to the artisans– will now fund charitable and philanthropic projects in countries such as Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi and Nepal. Blackbaud published the following infographic this week, revealing its findings regarding social fundraising. The fundraising software company predicts that “[w]ith the continued growth of Internet usage, the rise of social media, and the smart phone revolution it’s likely that social fundraising will continue to play a significant roll for non-profit organizations (or start to play a growing roll for those organizations who don’t already participate in this type of fundraising).”
